I started learning Bharatnatyam and Carnatic Vocal at SSVT MDA Singapore in 2013. It was then that I joined Guru Amirthini's class. Guru Amirthini was the one that showed me the beauty of dance as well as the hard work that is required. She always ensured a safe and fun environment for all her students. Her encouraging words helped me develop the confidence to start performing.

Through SSVT MDA and Guru Amirthini, I have had the opportunity to perform at many temples, community centres and events across Singapore. One of my most memorable experiences was performing for the President of Singapore at ISTANA.

Along with performances, I also started competing with my dance friends in various dance competitions, both in Singapore and Internationally. I remember practising endlessly with my friends every week for our iconic "Kalinga Narthanam" and "ChethiMandaram" dances.

Needless to say, the journey has taught me a lot and more importantly helped me hone various skills and attributes including hard work, discipline, attention to detail and teamwork.

My dance journey
My tryst with dance started way back when I first came to Singapore in 2010, beginning with Ballet and eventually gravitating towards Bharatnatyam. I still vividly recall the early days of going to the Senpaga Vinayagar temple along with friends and looking forward to our dance sessions with Guru Amirthini.

Over the years, I have explored different dance forms including Kathak, Contemporary, Jazz and Hip-Hop. I have also had the wonderful opportunity of being a student choreographer for my School Annual days.

Dance has taught me so many important skills and instilled my appreciation for the arts. I look forward to completing my rangapravesha and further exploring my journey as a dancer.
