About Aanya Rao
Introduced to Bharatnatyam at a very early age, Aanya has undergone over 8 years of training, largely in the Kalakshetra style. She started learning under Guru Amirthini Sivaharan in 2015 at Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple, Music and Dance academy. With the support and encouragement from her Guru, she has had the opportunity to participate and train in numerous workshops organized by Kalakshetra Chennai and perform at various prestigious events including at the Istaana Open House for the Singapore President. She has also won multiple awards at Local and International dance competitions.
An all-rounder, Aanya has been fortunate to combine her passion for the Arts with her STEM background. In 2020, she founded Art: Connect which is a student-led ground up initiative connecting the student art community to residents and patients of healthcare centers. The core philosophy is underpinned by the tagline, “Art can, and will, heal the world”.

In July 2021 she was featured by Ground-Up Central as one of the “Top 6 Youth” change makers in Singapore. She was also short-listed for the Prestigious Singapore President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards 2021 under the People of Good Student Category.
On Sunday, 7th November 2021, Aanya completed her Arangetram (also known as the Indian classical dance graduation recital). She sees her Arangetram as another steppingstone in her journey towards continuous learning and further appreciating the Arts!
The above performance is titled "Andal Kouthuvam". It is one of the pieces as part of Aanya's Arangertram and it dedicated to Andal, the only female Alvar among the 12 Alvar saints of South India.
